HOW DO FILIPINAS RATE THEMSELVES? Are We Delusional?

Pea hits the streets of Dumaguete City to ask Filipinas to rate their own looks on a scale of 1 to 10, then secretly shows their photos to local Filipino men to see if the ratings match. The results reveal stark differences between Filipino and Western beauty standards and expose why foreigners and local men aren't really competing for the same women.

The street interviews: How Filipinas rate themselves ​

• Woman 1: Rates herself a 4, says her best feature is her eyes, gives an instant "no" when asked if Filipino guys find her pretty. Thinks Western guys might rate her a 5 or 6
• Woman 2: Rates herself a 7 ("adjustable 7, solid"), says her best feature is her face and simple makeup approach. Gets approached by guys through chat rather than in person. Thinks foreigners would rate higher because "they're very generous when it comes to rating" — though she notes some foreigners say "you morenas are not that pretty," which she disagrees with
• Woman 3: Rates herself a 5 (average), says she lacks confidence to go higher. Identifies her best features as her collarbone and smile. Explains what local guys prefer: fair/white skin, straight hair, and chubby body type — essentially everything she is not (she has curly hair and dark skin). Has only been approached by three Western men total
• Woman 4: Rates herself a 3, says her best feature is her chest, and flatly says "no" to Filipino guys finding her attractive
• Woman 5: Rates herself an 8 — the most confident of the group. Her best feature is her waist (24-25 inches). Confident that foreign guys would rate her higher
• Woman 6: Rates herself a 4, saying she doesn't fit Filipino beauty standards which require being "white, sexy, curvy, and tall" — "everything that you are not at the moment." Thinks Western guys would rate higher because they like "morena, hospitable, caring, and loving" women. Believes foreigners value character more than just outer looks. Has never been approached by a foreigner
• Woman 7: Rates herself a 7, says her best feature is her eyes (people have told her this). Thinks foreigners would rate her about the same — 6 or 7. Says she'd be amazed if anyone said 10
• Woman 8: Rates herself an 8, best feature is her nose (not the typical short Filipino nose — she has a bridge). Says she was walking in town and was told by others that "your beauty fits for foreign guys" because foreigners like morena/tan skin. Currently in a relationship with a Filipino man — "one at a time, one by one" she jokes
• Woman 9: Rates herself a 5, best feature is her eyes which give "positive energy." Doesn't think local guys find her pretty. Thinks foreigners might not either because of her skin tone — she's not very tan
• Last interviewed woman: Her aunt married a foreigner and jokingly tells her to do the same. She rates herself a 7, says her best feature is her pointy nose with a bridge (unusual for Filipinas). Explains local guys prefer "mestiza" (fair-skinned, mixed-looking) women with long noses — essentially more Western features
• Another woman: Rates herself below 5 (a 4), says she's not into Filipino men and is interested in foreigners. Notes that even foreigners have varied preferences — Americans like "petite, skinny, glowing skin." She's a "homebody" so has never been approached
• Final woman: Rates herself a 3, says her best feature is her pouty lips (like Angelina Jolie). Thinks foreigners would rate higher because "they are mostly attracted to Filipinos" — possibly because of height and tan skin

The men's ratings — revealing different beauty standards ​

Another gets a 9 for her "mesmerizing" eyes and cuteness. Gives a 10 to a woman he finds sexy with "beautiful eyes" and a great smile. Says his beauty standards include wanting a woman shorter than him (he's 5'5") and prefers chubby women
