The Best Women - And Where To Find Them

Pea hits the streets of Dumaguete and surrounding areas to interview foreign men already living in or visiting the Philippines about how they found their partners, what makes Filipino women different from Western women, and where newcomers should look. The interviews range from a thrice-divorced military retiree to a methodical ex-bouncer who's scouting locations before he'll even consider dating.

Interview 1: The military retiree (unnamed, 2 months in the Philippines) ​

• Previously married three times in the US — "Third's not the charm... liars and cheaters"
• Plans to send the video to his ex-wife
• Found his current girlfriend on day four — his buddy's fiancée introduced him to her best friend
• What makes her stand out: she's not a liar, not a cheater, she's genuine, never been married, no kids (she's raising her niece), and has a business mindset
• He wants to start a Mexican food business in the Philippines; she shares the entrepreneurial drive
• On Filipino women's service orientation: she constantly tries to serve and pamper him; he tries to beat her to it by doing things first — "I don't treat women that way" but acknowledges it's their love language
• His advice on where to meet women: "Don't go to a bar, obviously" — be honest, use your gut instinct
• Suggests church as a good option: "Spirituality over here is big... a good Christian woman, they will treat you right"
• Even suggests non-religious guys might want to "bend just a little" on the spirituality front to access better partners

Interview 2: The Filipina from the East Coast trip ​

• She chose the East Coast because she'd heard good things and Florida's weather is similar to the Philippines
• When asked if she met anyone in Florida: "I plead the fifth"
• Her take on Filipino women vs. Western women: Filipinas are "not that hypergamous," make good wives and girlfriends "as long as you get the right one"
• Acknowledges "women are women — there's good and bad in every race"

Interview 3: Andy, the Australian (engaged) ​

• Met his fiancée at her workplace — he was staying at a hotel and bumped into her two or three times before asking her to dinner
• He made the first move; she was naturally shy, which he says is typical of Filipino women
• She said no the first time — he had to ask three times before she agreed
• Warns against online dating: several of his friends back home got scammed; he wouldn't do anything until meeting someone in person
• Key advice: "Don't send money unless you've met the person in person"
• On where to find quality women: "You can meet Filipino women anywhere" — but the best place is their workplace, because you know they actually have a job and aren't conning you
• Suggests learning basic Filipino phrases like "Kumusta po" (hello, what's your name) — not necessary but shows respect
• Plans to retire in the Philippines after the wedding in a couple of years

Has Pea been approached by Filipinas? ​

• Brief yes — women saying "Hello sir, would you like a massage?" which he reads as being "a kind for money" rather than a genuine massage offer

Interview 4: Elliot from Ohio (married to a Filipina) ​

• Met his wife in church in the Philippines
• Best things about his wife: very kind, charming, caring, very family-oriented
• Key cultural difference: "Filipinas are more subtle, Western women are more direct"
• Confirms Filipino mannerisms like covering the mouth when laughing
• Believes church is absolutely the best place to meet quality Filipinas
• Has no personal experience with online dating
• His uncle came to the Philippines first, married a Filipina, then told Elliot he needed to come see the country
• Biggest deal breaker: faith compatibility — "I got to be with a Christian"
• Second priority: family-oriented values
• On why these qualities are hard to find in the US: "In the United States everybody's by themselves... you take care of your family and everybody else takes care of theirs"
• When asked why foreigners are coming to the Philippines: "The women" — said with zero hesitation

Interview 5: Steele (dating Lenny, met on Christian Filipina) ​

• Been in the Philippines since February; fell for a "mountain lady" from the provinces
• Nicknames her "Lenny" after the character from Of Mice and Men (though clarifies she's not big like him)
• His favorite thing about Filipino women — the tampo (silent treatment):
  • He calls it "the tampon" at first (Pea corrects him to "tampo")
  • He genuinely likes it: when she's mad, she goes quiet, takes time to think, and then they can talk it out rationally after a day or two
  • Contrast with Western women: "They'll key your car, cut your leather seats, throw the ring out the window"
  • The catch: during tampo, the man has to chase a little — send messages like "I hope you're not mad, baby" and "I love you" — they like being pursued
• His girlfriend is a devout Catholic who goes to church every Sunday
• When asked if they're living together, he refuses to answer — "That's a trap" — worried someone will run through the province on foot to tell her
• Met her on the Christian Filipina dating site, then they met in person at a coffee shop called Tom and Tom
• She was an hour and a half late to their first meeting; the only reason he stayed was to give her a piece of his mind, but when she got out of the car "she was so cute and her smile was so big" that he couldn't get mad
• He told her firmly to never do it again — acknowledges Filipino time is a cultural thing but set the boundary early, and she's been punctual ever since
• Advice to older guys: don't show up "70 years old dying your hair black wearing new Nikes" trying to look younger — "You look stupid. These girls don't care"
• Deal breaker: "What if she smells?" — goes on a tangent about his ex-wife needing Botox in her armpits for sweating
• His divorce was so bad that the judge slammed their file (described as enormous) on the table and told everyone in the courtroom: "Don't end up like Mr. and Mrs. Davis here"

Interview 6: George, medically retired military (2 months, still scouting) ​

• Chose the Philippines because it "checked all the boxes": English-speaking, VA hospital for US soldiers, 85% Christian country
• Has a friend who came 15 years ago and married a Filipina in Coron Islands
• He's methodically scouting locations — been to Sibuyan City, Bais, Siquijor, and Dumaguete — before committing to a spot
• His approach: decide where to live first, sign a lease, get a house, THEN look for a girl — "Isn't that the way grown-ups do things?"
• Notes many guys do the reverse: find the girl first, then figure out logistics
• Acknowledges women are a major draw: "I would say there's probably something to that — the women here are beautiful"
• Key cultural difference: Filipino women are "a lot more subtle" while American women are "upfront" — "They'll come right out and tell you: I'm looking for the Barbie dream house, the nice car... what's your income?"
• Says first dates in America feel like job interviews
• Argues the quality of woman depends entirely on where you meet her — a woman from church will have different values than a woman from a strip club, regardless of country

• His plan: "I'll get a dog, a rooster, and a goat — then I'll start looking for a girlfriend"

Pea's overall takeaway ​

• Every guy she interviewed was happy with their time in the Philippines
• None of them were "starved for affection" — they found partners through church, the mall, friend introductions, and dating sites
• Almost every man said you can find a quality woman "almost anywhere just by walking around"
• Her advice: "Get those boots of yours over here and hit the pavement"
