Are Filipinas Becoming Ruined? Are Our Traditional Ways In Danger?

Pea conducts street interviews with multiple young Filipinas in Dumaguete to tackle whether foreigners are corrupting Filipino women by dating them. The interviews cover secret Filipino boyfriends, the "stealing Western men" accusation, why Filipinas are considered "wife material," and whether mixed-age relationships are really about love. The women are remarkably candid, with some sharing personal stories about relatives who scam foreigners.

Interview 1: Young woman (unnamed) on foreigners' intentions ​

• Says she's noticed many more foreigners visiting for vacation, living, and "for fun" — meaning going to clubs and tiki bars
• Estimates 60% of foreigners come for vacation only, about 30% come to "enjoy" and have fun (implying casual relationships)
• Foreigners tend to target 18-year-old women specifically
• She hasn't been approached directly, but her friend's foreign boyfriend wanted to meet/talk to her — she clarifies it was "just as a friend, talk stage"
• On why foreigners can't date their own women: Filipino women are "more on wife material" — they focus on their man, whereas Western women are more focused on business and work
• Says Filipino women are "very jealous" and do a lot of "tampo" (sulking/silent treatment) — acknowledges it depends on the situation whether this is good or bad
• On the difference between local and foreign guys: Filipino men are more "malambing" (charming/affectionate) and try to do everything for you when you throw tantrums; foreign guys don't buy your BS — "no drama, they don't like drama because they are matured"

Interview 2: Confident younger woman on the "stealing Western men" accusation ​

• Also flips it: "They're stealing our workers" (referencing OFW brain drain) and "they're the ones coming here"
• Says Filipinas offer unique traits: great singers, dancers, "very beautiful in a way that we have our own charm," very caring, very loving — traits foreigners can't find back home
• Filipinas are more conservative: "It really takes time, you have to take efforts to really understand before sleeping with the person"
• She personally believes in no sex before marriage and is saving herself for her husband
• They don't follow "the third date rule"
• On whether foreigners ruin Filipinas: depends entirely on how the foreigner was raised — good family upbringing = treats women with respect; but she acknowledges some foreigners exploit young women
• Notes it's "not just about young girls" — it's also exploiting people in vulnerable economic situations
• The issue is a "two-way street" — Filipinas can also be manipulative

Interview 3: Young woman whose mother dates a Polish man ​

• Has a close personal example — her mother is dating/married to a Polish foreigner (her stepdad)
• She's close with her stepdad
• Her mother encourages her to date foreigners, saying they have "more experience" and are "better at handling relationships than Filipino men"
• The biggest difference between local and foreign men: confidence — "Filipino men are very very shy and seem lost sometimes when it comes to girls"; foreigners are "a lot more confident and easygoing"
• On secret Filipino boyfriends while dating a foreigner: her childhood Yaya (nanny) used to do exactly this — talking to a foreigner through WhatsApp/Viber while also having a local boyfriend
• She thinks this is more prevalent when the foreigner lives outside the country and isn't physically present; harder to pull off in places like Dumaguete where the foreigner is around

Interview 4: Observant young woman with a relative who scams foreigners ​

• Notes that foreign men in the Dumaguete area are mostly older and seem to be there permanently
• Most come from "Northern America"; not many Europeans; Koreans and Chinese are mostly exchange students at local schools
• On why foreigners can't date their own women: it's a preference for Filipino culture and personalities — "in nature, we are more caring" while Western women are "not so much"
• Describes Filipino beauty as diverse: "chinitas" (small-eyed, East Asian-looking) and "morenas" (darker/tan skin)
• Foreigners tend to go after younger, petite, morena girls
• When she sees a significantly older foreigner with a young Filipina, her first thought is "it's about money"
• Has relatives who are "parasites" — one relative in her mid-30s lived with a foreigner in his 80s for about five years, spending all his money until he had to go home; that relative is now "looking for her next target"
• Pea jokingly asks what the relative looks like so she can warn people — the woman declines to disclose
• Filipinas who land a foreigner often feel superior: "They act highly than you because they think they achieved something better" — having a foreign partner is treated as a status symbol, "like they're rich now, so they can do whatever they want — it's like an accomplishment"

Pea's synthesis at the end ​

• The women don't think Filipinas are being "ruined" by dating foreigners
• But they do observe that Filipinas get a "big head" once they have a foreign mate
• Several confirmed knowing about secret boyfriends and women who go overboard spending foreign partners' money
• Despite all of this, almost every interviewee said they'd personally be happy to date a foreigner
• Mixed relationships aren't ending anytime soon

Notable recurring themes across interviews ​

• Filipino men are sweeter/more affectionate but immature; foreign men are more confident and mature but less tolerant of drama
• The "wife material" distinction is brought up by multiple women as a genuine Filipino advantage
• Parental involvement in relationship decisions is treated as normal and expected
• The "is it love or money?" question consistently gets answers in the 40-60% range for financially motivated relationships
• None of the women felt personally threatened or offended by foreigners dating Filipinas
