Best things about Filipinas — what the men said ​

• They genuinely enjoy taking care of you: the first interviewee says his Filipina does "almost everything" — cooking, cleaning, pampering, going out of her way to make him comfortable; he emphasizes it's genuine, not a facade; he calls it "an alien concept" and "stepping into a Twilight Zone" compared to what he's used to
• They're easy to please and low-maintenance: a Scottish guy says you don't need fancy dinners — his girlfriend was "super happy" eating balut on the boardwalk; equally happy with an expensive Bohol trip or just a coffee and a walk; he contrasts this with Western women who are "much more high maintenance"; his verdict: "Filipinas are low maintenance but prettier, easier going, more loving"

• Traditional, conservative, and feminine: another man appreciates the shyness, the "lady-like" quality, and the fact that Filipinas still want the man to wear the pants; he says good women in the West are "becoming fewer and fewer" and a friend married to a Filipina for 10+ years encouraged him to come find one
• They're frugal: one man says his Filipina will pick out a 50-cent dress from the ukay-ukay (thrift store) and be genuinely happy; she once bought tourist class tickets on a FastCat ferry to save 20 pesos even though business class was barely more — he ended up "hating life, ready to swim back to the last island"

Most annoying things about Filipinas — what the men said ​

• Extremely clingy: one man says his Filipina is attached to him whenever they're in public — holding his arm, holding his hand, every moment; if he says he's going somewhere, she insists on coming; "you are going to have to make a concerted effort to do something independently"; he connects it to the broader Filipino culture where two women or two men walk arm-in-arm as friends, but with a partner it becomes a possessive statement: "this is mine, back off ladies"
  • Pea asks if he's allowed to go to the bathroom alone — he confirms everybody has boundaries
