Pea interviews four young single Filipinas — Jonah (22, email associate), May/Bebe (20, mass communication student), Joy/Joyce (22, mass communication student), and a fourth participant — about what they want in a partner. She has them list their ideal traits, then rate specific qualities on a 1-10 scale, before hitting them with a hypothetical that exposes the gap between what they say they want and what they'd actually choose.
What each woman says she wants
- Jonah: Kindness, intelligence ("I want to talk to a man every day who is full of sense"), and humor — grew up in a funny family and wants the same household energy
- Bebe: A "workaholic" (Pea immediately challenges: "so he's always not home?") — she clarifies she means someone financially responsible who can sustain himself. Also wants attractiveness and humor
- Joyce: Hardworking, respectful, genuine, and — most importantly — someone who knows how to communicate. Her reasoning: "All of the problems, all of the misunderstanding — if your man knows how to communicate, then we don't have a problem"
- Fourth participant: Funny, because "life's too short, let's be happy." Attractiveness matters less because "beauty is just skin deep, it'll fade." Wants to "procreate with an intelligent person." Says age doesn't matter as long as they're healthy and "don't look gross"
The numerical ratings — where things get interesting
- Funny: Jonah gives it 8 (with a caveat — "a lot of funny guys are also insensitive, so I want him to be funny and sensitive to his words"); Bebe gives 9; Joyce gives a high rating
- Honesty: Everyone gives 10. Jonah explains she's observed that friends with honest husbands have relationships that actually work
- Attractiveness: Jonah gives 5 (wants a guy at least 5'5" since she's 5'5" herself, but beyond height "the rest, surprise me"); Bebe gives 6 (wants 5'6"+); Joyce gives 7 (reason: "I want to have beautiful and handsome children")
- Wealth: Jonah gives only 3 — she grew up not rich and wants to "go on a success together" with her partner rather than start with money. Joyce gives 4, saying it's not important as long as he can sustain a family. Bebe rates it low as well
- Intelligence: Universally rated highest. All of them want a man smarter than them. One says she wants to "feel like I'm dumb sometimes" (joking). Joyce says she wants someone who will "educate me" and "correct my actions"
- Education: Jonah rates it high but says even elementary education is fine "as long as it doesn't affect his intelligence." Bebe gives 9
- Religiosity: Rated 8 by multiple women. Jonah wants someone with faith of any religion but wouldn't date an atheist — her reasoning: "If he has faith in something, he will also have faith in our relationship." Joyce is stricter — she not only won't date an atheist, she won't date outside her own religion (Catholic), and firmly says no to Muslims. Her logic: if a man is religious, "the respect, the honesty, and loyalty will follow"
- Pea pushes back on the atheist rejection: "What's wrong with atheists? They just don't believe in a certain religion — it doesn't mean they're bad people." The women acknowledge this but hold firm on their preferences
The "not sweet" revelation
- Bebe reveals she's "not a sweet girl" — doesn't like public displays of affection or holding hands
- Rates romantic at 7 but says she prefers affection in private: "In person, you attack" (meaning she's affectionate privately but reserved publicly)
- She also says she wants someone religious who "can change me" and "convert me into a good girl"
The trap question: Funny but broke vs. boring but filthy rich
- Pea drops the hypothetical that exposes everything
- Joyce chooses the wealthy one without hesitation: "It's really hard to live with someone who is just funny without... what will happen to me in the near future? You can just laugh that you're hungry?"
- Bebe also picks wealthy: "Money matters. I can't die laughing." She says she'll go shopping and buy happiness
- Only Jonah picks the funny broke guy — but when Pea follows up with "what if you're BOTH broke?" she hesitates and admits "I guess we will have a problem"
- Pea calls them out directly: "I asked you earlier — rating the wealth of a guy — and you guys said it's in the lower side of the chart, three or four. But you two are going with the wealthy guy. You're hypocrites!"
- The women laugh but don't really deny it — Joyce defends herself by saying you can't eat laughter: "I can play with a funny guy all the time without food to eat? I can't imagine with no food to eat because you're just living with a funny guy"
